Dentures Q & A

What are dentures?

A denture is an artificial replacement worn to replace missing teeth and restore your smile. They are removable, and there are two main types of dentures: full and partial. Dr. Vilderman will be able to assist you in choosing the type of denture that's best for you based on the condition of your teeth. Today's dentures are natural looking and more comfortable than ever.

Are dentures right for me?

Living with a missing tooth or multiple missing teeth can become physically challenging as missing teeth can make it difficult to eat and speak, causing a strain on your remaining teeth. It can also be emotionally challenging as missing teeth become a source of embarrassment. With dentures, the function of your smile can be restored. Dentures can also restore your confidence and ability to smile proudly.

What if I still have some of my teeth?

If you still have your natural teeth but are missing a few, partial dentures might be the option for you. Partial dentures are held in place by attaching to your existing teeth, anchoring to dental implants, or a combination of both without compromising the health of your existing natural teeth. Dr. Nataly Vilderman will be able to determine the best option of denture for you.

How long until I can wear my dentures?

For full dentures, it will be necessary for no natural teeth to remain present. It takes at least eight weeks for your gums to heal after the teeth are removed. When the gums are fully healed, you can begin to wear the dentures. Your new dentures may feel slightly awkward for the first few weeks or even months as you get used to wearing them.
